The Jackson State University Band is committed to being involved in our community and spreading joy to all!  Performances include, but are not limited to: parades, corporate events, primary/secondary school functions, university events etc.  Separate entities of the Sonic Boom, i.e. J-Settes, Drummajors, etc., will not be allowed to perform independently of the entire band program depending on the event.  
 
It is important to understand that although the Sonic Boom is a public relations unit that provides the utmost of entertainment, it is also made up of student musicians.  All performances may not be approved due to this fact to ensure that our students attend their classes and enjoy their time outside of the rigor of being a bandsmen.  We will make every attempt to honor as many requests as possible.  Lastly, depending on what you are requesting, compensation will be required to cover costs that will be applied to student scholarships and band operational cost.  If you would like to “Book the Boom,” please review the information listed below.

Pep Band Guidelines

Pep Band Sizes

Pep Band A – about 30 musicians (drumline and second line groups included)
Pep Band B – about 80 musicians
Full band (at directors discretion)

Pep Band Availability

Pep Bands and request will only be selected according to scheduling of our students and full band schedule.  Instrumentation (number of each instrument)  \will be determined by the director.

Transportation

It is preferred that all transportation be handled and booked through our facilities management department.  Once we review/approve your request, we will provide the contact information.  Payment for transportation will be due at least two (2) days before student travel/event.

Meal(s)

We typically require a hot meal for our students after a performance has been rendered.  We ask that the requester provide what the meal will be and confirm the meal at least two (2) days before student travel.
Student Honorarium
Our students work extremely hard in our band program.  As such, we require a honorarium that will go towards student scholarships and overall operational cost to the JSU Band program.  Please make all payments (officially checks) out to “JSU BANDS.” We do not except cash or personal checks.  All payments are due at least two (2) days before student travel.
Performance Length
Groups will perform a set list of a minimum of 5 minutes and upwards to 30 minutes  of content outside of parades or other major events.

Distance 0-30 miles (one-way)

Pep Band A: $1,000 honorarium + cost of transportation  + meals
Pep Band B: $2,000 honorarium + cost of transportation  + meals
Full Band (director discretion): $5,000 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals

Distance 31-60 miles (one-way)

Pep Band A: $1,500 honorarium + cost of transportation  + meals
Pep Band B: $2,500 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals
Full Band (director discretion): $5,500 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals

Distance 61-90 miles (one-way)

Pep Band A: $2,000 honorarium + cost of transportation  + meals
Pep Band B: $3,000 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals

Distance 91-120 Miles (one-way)

Pep Band A: $2,500 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals
Pep Band B: $3,500 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals
Full Band (director discretion): $7,000 honorarium  + cost of transportation  + meals

Distance >120 Miles

Pep Band A: Contact Band Office

Campus performance(s)

Fees will be waived for performances that are requested by the university that are on campus grounds however, a hot meal is preferred.  All transportation will have to be covered for performances that are not on campus grounds.

*A discount is also provided for events where the band is provided a meal, so long as the total required time for the band at the event, including travel, does not exceed three hours.
